About The Synod of the Diocese of Niagara
We are faith community in south east oakville that welcomes all. We continue to have bible study and morning prayer groups held on zoom. We collect food for local foodbanks and contribute community garden grown produce! We have a compassionate care team that checks in on community members. We provide space for local community groups. We have an active christmas tree sales program that is a fundraiser but also a community outreach activity as we provide trees to those who can't otherwise afford one. We partner with the town of oakville as an emergency hub as part of oakville ready due to our strategic location and fully accessible building with a variety of facilities. We offer worship services in english and a bilingual english/mandarin. The english service is livestreamed via youtube. We have added in-person bible study groups in both english and mandarin. We actively serve a multi-cultural multi-generational community through an in-person & remote outreach program supporting physical activity (dancing tai chi yoga) seniors' programs (choir social gatherings learning english opportunities) and lead community garbage clean-ups. We added an expanded social time after our worship services. We prepared free meals for the less fortunate and organized community food drives for local food banks. We expanded the produce grown for sale to both community members and donations to our local food bank along with an educational component for the volunteers to learn about gardening and food security. We started a youth rising stars program that allows youth from the community opportunities to have music dance and leadership training as well as opportunities to perform in concerts. This was coordinated with our parish youth events also. We started the process of turning an underutilized space into a peace garden which is a community-accessible space with an outdoor labyrinth indigenous plantings (with educational components) and areas for meditation and contemplation.
