About The Sunshine Coast Arts Council
Gallery program: scac operates a public art gallery showing 8-10 jury selected professional art exhibitions annually. Professional exhibition schedule is supplemented by community programs-children school programs and community groups. Admission to all gallery exhibtions is free. Awards program: 3 annual cash awards recognizing excellence and achievement (young adult to seniors emerging and professional level) cash awards for visual artists age 5-18. Banner design competition: scac produces 25 banners (6' x 2') based on designs submitted by school children. Designs are reproduced by adult volunteers and displayed in a prominent public space downtown. Music program: concert grand piano is made available for concerts and recitals and community members preparing for recitals. Adolescents are able to learn how to use a variety of instrument compose music and perform for community events. A spring and fall program of literary readings by published local and canadian authors are presented with free admission. Cultural communication: scac has an interactive website supplemented with social media to inform the community of activities and programs and to document and publish information about the same. Facilities: an art and music studio is available for use by community groups and individual artists for rentals. Arts awards are made from endowment funds.
