About The Reading Place Child and Youth Development by Reading Inc.

Development of Reading Rooms: rooms are under construction and/or awaiting First Nation smudging. Rooms are themed to provide interesting places for children to read. Purpose is to excite children to want to read so they read more. Rooms are developed as funding and grants are received. All programs are geared for educational reading advancement for children in grades one to four. Educational Reading Presentations: in schools and at clubs to excite children about the world of reading. Presenters go to various schools and clubs and talk to children in grades one to four about reading and the programs The Reading Place will provide when the doors open. Discussions include items from the theme rooms reading and books. The children get to learn about the books and the items in the theme rooms. Guest presenters also talk to the children about reading education and the importance of learning. Presenters will be involved with group visits to The Reading Place once open to group visits. Presentations also include discussions about how the children can earn scholarships based on reading at The Reading Place. Scholarship program: continuing to get the books categorized and classified and recorded into The Reading Place's library software. The books are the basis for children to earn points that can lead to a scholarship for post-secondary education. Each book is assigned a point value based on its researched reading level and the volume of actual reading there is in the book. For example a novel with no pictures is assigned a higher point value than a graphic novel that is full of pictures even though both novels may have the same number of pages. The scholarships are held in trust until the child goes to post-secondary education. Qualifying payments of scholarships are paid directly to the post-secondary organization upon confirmation of enrolment. Scholarships do not transfer to other children and do expire. Expired scholarships go back into the general pool of fun
