The Ottawa Firefighters Community Foundation Inc.

The charity continues its annual service/cermony for deceased ottawa firefighters. For 2024 the ceremony was held on september 6th at the firefighters monument at ottawa city hall. The intention is to honor firefighters who died during the 12-month period since the previous ceremony. The catergories are: line of duty deaths and legacy of courage deaths. Attendance at the live ceremony included family members of the deceased fire and municipal officials city employees and the general public. The event was also live streamed and broadcast on u-tube. This ceremony has turned out to be an excellent vehicle to honour these deaths and also to deliver fire-related public information that is focused on ottawa's heritage past and present urban fire damage/renewal and fire prevention at large. Highlights include the hazards of firefighting as an occupation and the need for health and safety in terms of modern procedures and equipment. Attendance seemed to be back to pre-pandemic numbers although fundraising activities have remained somewhat lower than past years. Some expansion work will be carried out at th emonument site in 2025-26.
