The Open Hamper Food Bank Society

We operate a food bank and seasonal community garden. The food bank distributes food to anyone in need. We are located in Pugwash Cumberland County Nova Scotia. Our geographic area of operation extends from Malagash through Wallace and Pugwash to Wentworth and Port Howe and all surrounding areas. We are a 100% volunteer organization. We rely on donations of food and money from individuals and businesses in the community the provincial Feed Nova Scotia organization and other charities. All money received with the exception of a small amount for necessary administration costs (insurance etc.) is used to purchase food. The community garden is located in Pugwash. Clients and volunteers grow vegetables which are then distributed to food bank clients with extra produce made freely available to the community. We operate a delivery service for clients who are unable to attend the food bank. Clients are contacted by telephone to determine their needs. We have approximately 30 active volunteers We do not have any new programs in the reporting period
