About The Ninety-Nines East Canada Section Inc.
Purpose: To promote the advancement of women in aviation through education scholarships and mutual support while honouring the unique history of Canadian women in aviation and sharing our passion for flight. 1. Education: a) The charity provides an aircraft that is available for women pilots to use to build flying hours and experience toward an advanced license or rating. b) The charity organizes an annual air rally where teams of women pilots fly a prescribed route that provides challenges to improve piloting and navigation skills. 2. Scholarships: a) The charity awards an annual 'New Track' scholarship of $1 000 for a woman pilot to receive flight training for an advanced license or rating as a second career. b) The charity awards an annual 'Time Builder' scholarship of $1 000 for a woman pilot to build flying hours and experience toward an advanced license or rating using the aircraft that is available from the charity for this purpose. 3. Mutual support: a) The charity organizes a 'study buddy' program that matches a senior member with a student pilot or someone who is pursuing an advanced rating or license. Support includes sharing experiences while training for the rating or license and providing tips for preparing for the written examination requirement. b) The charity has a scholarship committee with a chairperson and one representative in each of the seven chapters. Student pilots or those wishing to apply for an external scholarship receive coaching on the completion of the relevant application form. Volunteer hours: The Quebec chapter of the charity acts as an intermediary to operate the aircraft and manage it use and maintenance. There is a committee of six persons who oversee this activity. The air rally is organized by a team of two members plus approximately four volunteers at the base airport and along the route. The two scholarships are awarded based on a review of applications.
