The Newmarket Historical Society

We preserve the past for future generations by connecting people to the history of newmarket ontario. We safely store documents journals photos etc. And make them available to the public. We provide a monthly speakers series for members of the newmarket historical society during which presentations are made on the town's history and culture. We develop and promote special programming to celebrate special dates of historical interest such as the ww1 100th anniversay. We provide a monthly newsletter to our members. We are well into a multi-year initiative involving an archival restoration project whose main focus areas are: - the restoration and digitization of some 3 000 images of newmarket ranging from tintype photographs original photographs postcards drawings and posters - the digitization and cataloguing of thousands of records of newmarket history - the revamping of our limited archival space so as to maximize efficiency and accessibility - the preservation of early maps books family records and histories business histories and town memorabilia
