Education and public information program: maintained website social media programs and information dissemination about the national trust its objectives plans and programs as well as information about the conservation of special places of environmental and/or cultural significance. Land assessment and securement program: engaged third party property owners and and interested individuals in discussions and actions regarding the protection of 'at risk' sites. Including: - leased agricultural property from government of bc and sublet to farm operator to ensure ongoing retention of active farmland. - retained several conservation covenants from another charity to ensure continuity of conservation measures at the site – in process of registration. - acquired property and constructed facility on site to ensure protection of rearing habitat for rare species of bat. Program in partnership with province of bc. Public engagement and volunteer program: most of the work done by the national trust during the fiscal period was on a volunteer basis. Basic volunteer program established including recruitment of 15-20 volunteers. Ongoing development of legal and operational structures policies and program parameters as well as fundraising and membership development. Community conservation engagement program: - the charity provides support and technical assistance for evolving community education activities undertaken in partnership with the sheringham point lighthouse preservation society. - it also continues to build a school-based community history program for students in grade 4 & 5 to connect with and learn from elders in their community. - the charity is providing support and technical assistance as required for the jazz on view society’s efforts to conserve and protect a historic live jazz venue in the city of victoria.
