The Mennonite Historical Society of British Columbia

The society operates to archive and to collect material relevant to mennonite history and to make material available to researchers and lay scholars. It sponsors lectures and artistic events to purvey information on mennonite history and culture. The society publishes a newsletter 3 to 4 times a year. The society is involved in an ongoing digitization project which converts microfilm images and articles to an electronic format to allow greater access for the society's stakeholders. It is also involved in scanning photos and adding archival descriptive records to a database with multiple repositories for online access. Because nearly all of this work is performed by volunteers or is material donated by individuals and organizations. Nearly all of the society's work results in items that cannot be valued directly in financial terms on a financial statement. The management and administrative costs of the society support the volunteers in the creation of public research and archival materials in addition employees and volunteers assist the public with access to these materials. The society is supporting the creation and publication of a book to reflect mennonite history in bc.
