The Groundwater Project

The groundwater project (gw-project) is a volunteer-based charitable non-profit organisation (ngo) registered in canada and global in scope. It is committed to the advancement of groundwater understanding and awareness by creating high quality groundwater learning materials (books modules videos) in many languages made available for free download and use from its website. Materials are translated in many languages with 57 underway at present. The gw-project manages key activities with a small staff and the support of a board of directors and relies on over 1 000 volunteers (authors reviewers and translators). The gw-project's objective is to make groundwater understandable with an overall vision to build human capacity for sustainable and resilient development and management of groundwater. The educational materials created by the gw-project has a global readership from 183 countries with a total of 2.4 million readings and 100 000 readings added every month. Knowledge is provided for everyone with materials for children the general public university students and groundwater professionals (researchers and practitioners). The gw-project's mission is innovative in that it encompasses an entire realm of environmental science (all things groundwater) documented by volunteer experts from around the globe in online books videos and learning tools aimed at education for readership at all levels and all global circumstances to serve humanity and our planet's ecology. The gw-project is aimed at raising groundwater consciousness and strengthening groundwater expertise. In 2024 the groundwater project transitioned from its dominant activity being directed at publishing books of synthesis to include two synergistic activities: development of educational materials created for adults for online self-learning that includes self-testing and preparation of learning materials aimed at children high school level and the general public.
