The Elizabeth Bishop Society of Nova Scotia

The mandate of the elizabeth bishop society of nova scotia is to raise awareness of and celebrate the nova scotia connections of the pulitzer prize winning poet elizabeth bishop. To this end the ebsns continues to publish its annual newsletter and to hold reading events in great village ns. In conjunction with its annual general meeting held in june which is open to the ebsns membership and the general public. All the activities and events of the ebsns are organized and carried out by volunteers on the board and in the wider community. The ebsns continues to maintain a website a blog and a facebook page. The ebsns held it annual general meeting on friday 14 june 2024 at elizabeth bishop house in great village n.s. The society conducted a small fund-raiser for its 30th anniversary events-the prize a painting of the bishop house by nova scotia artist susan tooke. The draw was held at the end of the agm and the winner was april sharpe. On saturday 15 june 2024 the society hosted two talks at the bishop house: nova scotia writer brian bartlett on bishop's key west house and british columbia writer leese dean about her bishop-inspired novella in verse the filling station. The society is planning to compile a small poetry chapbook to mark its 30th anniversary.
