About The Downstage Performace Society
1) Production of live and digital theatre performances: usually approximately 5 productions for public consumption with 15 to 20 live and digital performances. 2) Creation of socially-engaged performances: process highly-engaged with current questions facing our community. 3) Post-performance discussions: Each performance is followed by a facilitated discussion to encourage dialogue between audience members. 4) Curating a theatre venue: Engagement with a wider artistic community meeting community need for performance space. 5) Community outreach initiatives: seek to engage communities affected by the themes of shows we produce. 6) Volunteer engagement: board of directors casino fundraisers and various responsibilities at shows. Typically engage about 50 volunteers annually. 7) New work development program: facilitating the creation of new work from a diverse range of artists through various types of support. 8) Pay-It-Forward program: no-cost ticketing program aimed at removing cost barrier to access for audience members. 9) Theatrical Skills for Professional Progress: projects wherein theatrical skills are applied for the purpose of affecting tangible social impact in the community especially via supporting professional development opportunities and support for emerging artists by providing professional and educational learning opportunities.
