The Delta Mill Society

The Delta Mill Society continues to maintain exhibit and program two heritage buildings - The Old Stone Mill NHS and the Old Town Hall. The OSM is an operating stone gristmill built in 1810 as such the oldest in Ontario. The OTH was built in the 1880's as a town hall community meeting center theatre and Masonic Hall. Until 2013 it housed the Museum of Industrial Technology but was subsequently renovated back to its original purpose as a community meeting hall. It also serves as the storage center for the DMS artifacts and archives. Both buildings are open to visitors from the May long weekend until Labour Day providing tours and demonstrating the milling process of bygone years and producing flour for visitors and local food enterprises. In 2022 we reopened to the public after two years closed due to Covid. We again hired and trained students to showcase the Mill both through self-guided tour options and tours conducted by the students. Since the two years of closure were used to do maintenance and update the displays and add new features it was exciting to reopen to the public. We still do milling demonstrations on the weekends for visitors to the Mill. This year we trained some of our interested students in this skill and they were able to take over some of the public demonstrations and give talks to groups about the milling process. This was greatly enjoyed by DMS directors the miller the students and the public.
