The Dance Foundation

The Dance Foundation as the owner of the Scotiabank Dance Centre - Canada's flagship dance facility - is dedicated to ensuring this facility dedicated to dance continues to provide premiere space for dance artists to rehearse create and present dance. The Foundation continues its efforts to ensure that the financing of its objectives is deficit-free and self-sustainable long-term; and to meet the specific needs of a diverse range of dance styles while promoting accessibility of the building and a safe environment to work in to a broad base of dance artists and organizations. The venue operations -- including upkeep and upgrades to equipment and spaces supporting dance production -- are covered solely through the rental revenues and fundraising activities. Use of space at discounted rates by dance artists is a key objective for The Dance Foundation’s mission. There are no specific new program occurring other than significant investments continue to be made by The Dance Foundation's as focus continues to be on provision of superior conditions and responsive to the needs of members and other users of this dance specific venue and for all styles of dance. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and continued post pandemic concerns re COVID exposure The Dance Foundation continues to upgrade its HVAC systems to ensure continued safety and efficiency in an effort to be responsive to the objective to ensure green operations and keeping overall systems functioning efficiently. Due to rising operational costs several beyond our control but also investments into maintaining a safe space the Dance Foundation is focused on generating revenues from donations to support and sustain the offer of discounted spaces for dance artists to use; and the Foundation has also started work with several consultants to work with the Board to empower them to secure alternative revenue sources to cover increasing maintenance costs of the facility.
