About The Chop Theatre Society
The Chop is a Vancouver-based theatre organization that brings together artists to create new works of theatre for audiences locally across Canada and internationally. The organization often works with communities and individuals who are not professional artists but who are members of a particular community (youth elders people from a particular locale) with stories that deserve to be shared. Ongoing Programs include the live and digital showcasing of multiple artistic works for local regional and international audiences and corresponding community outreach programs shaped around each artistic project. (New Programs include artistic works that are in development and ones being presented for the first time). The Chop also maintains an active mentorship stream in which emerging artists are hired to work on artistic projects and to learn from their established artist peers. The Chop relocated its community programs rurally to Shuswap BC. Here we focus our performance and organizing efforts on local artists Indigenous youth neurodiverse children and women in comedy. We offer an arts residency for no cost and are making use of the in kind donated Historic Salmar Theatre for public events. We have 2 new board members from the Shuswap to support this transition. We re looking to turn all contract workers into staff by 2026.
