About The Centre for Indigenous Theatre
The centre for indigenous theatre is a contemporary performance training facility offering professional development opportunities for emerging and established indigenous theatre artists. We were the first and remain the only school of our kind in canada. Our full-time program consists of 39 weeks of training per year for three years. We also deliver an intensive three-week program in september another for one week in february/march of each year and other relevant workshops during the year. We now offer studio rentals for other members of the artistic community to home and deliver their craft. A fourth year program has been added which will foster real life exposure to and bridging into the arts community and industry for our students. The arts digital workshop (adw) and visions and voices (v&v) programs were developed during covid-19 as digital outreach training programs that offer tehatrical training in digital space making aspects of our program accessible from anywhere in the country. A 3 to 5 minute video or trailer production is developed in each program and can be used by the student / participant to showcase their talent and at festivals. Live performances can also be done from the work produced and is also encouraged.
