The Cats of Paint Lake

The charity received news in the spring of 2022 that the property we were running rescue operations on was going to be sold. So we ceased accepting new intakes and began working exclusively on caring for and adopting out the animals in our care. We continued to work in the community as a liaison between individuals and other rescues/SPCA/Humane Society organizations. We fielded calls gave advice assisted with trapping kept a limited number of animals in foster care all while trying to reduce our in-house numbers so we could reassess and reconfigure the operation. In 2023 we remained in operation on a limited basis as above. Some new intakes were accepted and placed into foster care before being adopted out. A number of other 'unadoptable' cats with special needs continue to be cared for by the rescue. The charity's focus on feral cats remains and we are working to find a new location or potentially a new format. There are very few organizations in Ontario that help feral cats by rehabilitating them and preparing them for adoption. To preserve this mandate we may need to relocate the organization out of our immediate area and/or find a new director to manage the program. Our newest director Roxanne St. Germain is experienced in handling ferals and has taken on some of the operational aspects at a new shelter space in Temagami Ontario. None for 2023 but new programs are being planned for the 2024/25 fiscal year.
