The Carol Shields Prize Foundation

1) to advance the public's appreciation and the participation of women in the literacy arts by establishing and administering a periodic award to promote high-quality works of literature by women in north america; providing publicly available scholarships bursaries and other forms of financial assistance to women writers to support the production of high-quality literacy works; offering mentoring programs for women in the literary arts; and offering seminars conferences and workshops on a variety of topics related to women in literature for the benefit of women writers and the general public. 2) to conduct research on a variety of topics related to women and gender roles in the literary arts and to disseminate the results of such research to the general public. 3) to recieve and maintain a fund or funds and to apply all parts of the principal and income therefore from time to time to qualified donees.
