About The Canadian Injured Workers' Alliance Inc./ L'Alliance Canadienne Des Victimes D'Accidents Et De Maladies Du Travail

We lost our funding in the last round but we have continued our work on a very limited budget. Our stigma research project is still ongoing and the report was submitted in May 2024. A report card being developed will evaluate the current face of stigma based on the research findings. We continue to offer suggestions for resources to injured worker callers from across Canada on a regular basis looking for help with their compensation claims. COVID has opened the doors for virtual peer helper training which is a great resource when supporting other injured workers. We worked on the 2025-2026 NAAW funding application a continuation of the stigma project which was finalized and then submitted in July 2024. Injured workers who suffer permanent injuries resulting in disability face stigmatization in healthcare the workplace society and by the compensation systems. We continue our work to raise awareness and coping strategies for those who live with Chronic Pain due to injuries or work illnesses. CIWA is a partner with the development of the Power Over Pain portal and offers a wide variety of resources to help manage Chronic Pain and a new page is being developed for injured workers. We continue to raise awareness of the challenges injured workers across Canada face through our website FB page Twitter and when asked to speak on behalf of CIWA and its work at events and meetings with like-minded organizations and networks. We recruited 5 volunteers during the past year and they have been learning more about CIWA and what we do but also about what resources are available to help injured workers in their regions. They have also become involved with a number of our research projects as opportunities present. Staff has participated in addiction training related to stigma abuse Indigenous sensitivity training GBA+ and EDI training and we look for ways for CIWA to build inclusivity within the board staff and volunteers.
