The Calgary Folk Club

The calgary folk club presents an annual series of 12-13 music concerts featuring local canadian and international music artists. The concerts are presented at a nightly-rented community hall and are open to patrons purchasing a season pass or single-event tickets. The objective of the club is to foster live music culture in the calgary area and support/promote upcoming and mature performing artists through the presentation of public concerts featuring a variety of music genres: traditional and contemporary folk blues bluegrass zydeco western swing etc. The calgary folk club is a founding member and proud sponsor of the annual canadian folk music awards. The calgary folk club with the bow valley music club is a major sponsor and co-host in the alberta room showcase at the annual folk alliance international conference where alberta and canadian artists are featured and promoted to other presenters of performance venues from around the world. On an irregular basis the calgary folk club contracts our performing artists to present songwriting workshops children's concerts harmony workshops and local community events to promote live music engagement. This year the club hosted double workshops on songwriting and instrumental improvisation by quebec artist aleksi campagne the calgary folk club is a volunteer managed and operated organization that annually engages approximately 45 local participants who donate over 4 000 personal hours to the operation of the club the club has become a sponsor and major support to a new local initiative 'write on! - the songwriting experience'. This 8-month program is designed to give new and emerging songwriters: a wealth of guidance in the elements of songwriting; networking and collaboration with peers; guidance in recording releasing and promoting their music; live exposure to performances and tutorials by highly successful canadian and international songwriters; and an opportunity to perform one of their songs before
