The Bytown Museum

The purpose of the museum is to collect preserve study and make accessible in the museum and online the material and cultural heritage ( artifacts stories programming) of the ottawa regions indigenous multicultural and diverse history. Through this the museum promotes interest in and appreciation for the history of bytown. We offer daily educational programs for museum visitors. A newly updated permanent exhibition is available in 3 languages including anishnabemowin. Annually we present at least one new temporary exhibition and one community gallery exhibition. We care for a collection of over 7000 artefacts. Programming includes; seasonal programming beyond bytown zoom lectures photogramming phridays ( promotional series leading up to launch of online collection platform supported by the map grant) social media programming doors open architectural tours vintage tool festical in partnership with ottawa tool library summer music series spring reception exhibition vernissage / mural inauguration.
