About The Burlington Historical Society
We traditionally hold 8 Speaker's meetings per year in the Centennial Room at Central Branch Burlington Public Library. We continue to publish our monthly newsletter (8/year) and we continue to be active on social media and our website. Information is shared with our members via email and in person at regular meetings. BHS provided speakers for outside groups covering Burlington history topics: St. Luke's Anglican Church Lunch - Burlington History; Hearthstone by the Lake retirement residence - The Estaminet Restaurant; Aldershot Senior's group - History of Aldershot - BHS conducted historic walks for local citizens: Beach Strip; LaSalle Park and guided historic walks for visiting groups: The Apeldoorn Delegation from the Netherlands - historic downtown Burlington; Ubuntu Women's Group - Greenwood Cemetery. - In conjunction with the City of Burlington we arranged and conducted a major project at the local United Empire Loyalist cemetery. We cleaned a number of stones and hired an expert to make repairs to damaged gravestones. We plan to continue this project in 2025. - BHS provided displays of items pertaining to Burlington History in the form of 22 posters on display at Spencer Smith Park during August Heritage Week; a display of artifacts at Burlington City Hall; - The City of Burlington set up a collection of historic photos in a gallery space at City Hall - the photos were supplied by BHS. - In October we launched a new book - Farewell to the Garden of Canada - In 2024 we were again a supporter of the Festival of Lights at Spencer Smith Park
