The Bearspaw Historical Society

The society is the sole keeper of the history and maintenance of the historical school teacherage and replica barn which from 1920 were for the education of the childrent of the early homesteaders of the bearspaw area. The society does not own the buildings but is the steward of them. They are situated in the bearspaw area on municipal land owned by rocky view county which is adjacent to calgary alberta. The society pays for all upkeep maintenance and property insurance for the buildings and their contents. In the buildings and on the land the society puts on programs for the community. Some occassional and one permanent rental of the buildings helps pay the cost of their upkeep. On september 20 2025 the bhs is holding a historical day to which all bearspaw and neighboring community members are invited to attend. The program will include on the outdoor site of society: an indigenous group that will raise a teepee a stockmen's group that will help participants to design a brand they will then burn onto a piece of wood in true cowboy style children's and other activities and hotdogs among other things. The society is also just beginning the process to research towards the end product of a high quality published book the history of dairy farming in the bearspaw area.
