About The Alzheimer Society of Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District
We offer caregiver and family support education and awareness for those affected by alzheimer's disease or realted dementia. We do cognitive testing and assessment though first link referrals. We do have home visiting recreation thereapy programs for person with alzheimer's disease or related dementia to increase or improve acivity socialization. We have minds in motion program to help with physical activity and social time for early stage client and thier partners assisted by volunteers. We have a finding your way program ti assist families coping with demntia relatedresponsive behaviours. We have a volunteer visisting program where volunteers visit and socialize withg persons dealing with alzheimer's disease & related demntias. We have a memory cafe twice a year where persons with dementia and their families meet in a social and safe setting and create new friendships. We offer a resource library of education materials regarding alzheimers disease and related dementias. We support ongoing alzheimer's research with an annual donation. We support educational pursuits by giving scholarhsips to students who are studying in the social work of medical fields. We continue to support project lifesaver prgram in collaboration with search and rescue and local police to purhase monitoring devices for persons at risk of wanderting. We continue to support dementia network-working with local health professionals to discuss strategies for assisting families dealing with alzheimer's disease abilities. We continue to support in-house recreation therapy one on one sessions and activities with persons to encourage socialization and stimulate thier cognitive abilities. We continue to have a behavioural support recreation therapist program to give persons who have shown behavioural issues an opportunity to stimulate cognitive abilities and socialization. We continue to offer an adult day program in the district of blind river. This program is offered 1 day a week.
