The Alberta Ecotrust Foundation

Alberta ecotrust foundation implements programs and projects to protect the environment which includes protecting the quality of air and water wildlife habitat parks and suburban land use. In addition to its own projects and in pursuit of its purpose the foundation holds and disburses funds for environmental initiatives to qualified grantees and often delivers programs in partners with other charities community organizations governments indigenous communities and business sector. This includes grant making initiating and funding projects and seeking additional investors donors and partnership to achieve our enviromental low carbon and energy efficiency objectives. Aef is also a founding member of low carbon cities canada (lc3). In alignment with that initiative a federal endowment aef created a climate innovation fund to support the climate change plans for the cities of calgary and edmonton. The main objective of this fund is to raise an additional $40 million in matching funds to help these municipalities and communities reduce urban green house gas emissions by 80% before 2050. This includes the ongoing community engagement cooperative program planning and implementation contributions to municipal polisy and development and the exploration of innovative social financial tools emission neutral building information exchange (enbix) was launched this past year. Here we bring together partners who have the shared goal of reaching net-zero green house gas emissions in the construction renovation and operation of building across alberta. It promotes the free and rapid sharing of innovative ideas solutions best practices and lesson learned among a broad cross-section of interest parties in the building and construction ecosystem.
