About Testaments of Honour Historical Archive

The Testaments of Honour project focusses on recording the experience of veterans of WW II currently living in Canada. To date we have completed the project’s interviewing objectives. 540 veterans’ interviews from across Canada have been completed resulting in an archive of 1 050 hours of video and 14 500 photographs and documents. The project website (www.testaments.ca) features video clips and photographs from the archives. Thousands of short videos have been posted on YouTube and Veterans’ Affairs Canada’s websites. Doubleday of Canada published two bestselling books written by Project Director Blake Heathcote and the project has been featured in media across the country. Custom video displays have been created for kiosks in the Juno Beach Centre in Bernières-sur-Mer (Normandy) HMCS Haida in Hamilton and for the Royal Canadian Military Institute in Toronto as well as for hundreds of veterans’ families. We partnered with Veterans Affairs Canada the Juno Beach Centre and Defining Moments Canada to commemorate Canadian veterans' contributions to D-Day in acknowledgement of the 75th anniversary of the Invasion of Normandy. 21 select interviews from our archives were edited and shared online to be used in classrooms in Canada and in France or for anyone interested in the subject around the world. We are in currently discussions with the Canadian War Museum to donate this unique Archive. This transition of assets will hopefully commence in late 2025.
