Taking It Global Youth Association

Taking IT Global Youth Association's ('TIG') programs support social innovation provide connected learning experiences and offer training for youth that fosters creativity and digital skills helping them make greater contribution to the communities and organizations they're involved with. Programs take place through local engagement in Canadian provinces and territories and internet-based virtual methods reaching youth and educators over the World Wide Web. Connected North delivers interactive education services to Canada's most remote communities. With the support of the Governments of Nunavut Ontario and Yukon and a coalition of corporate and foundation partners the program is helping to improve student engagement and educator capacity for over 35 000 students attending 200 schools across Nunavut Yukon Northwest Territories Ontario Manitoba British Columbia Alberta and Saskatchewan. During this fiscal period the program delivered over 5 700 live interactive learning experiences to schools that we serve. Our Code to Learn Create to Learn programs funded by ISED Canada's CanCode initiative continued to build computational thinking and digital content production skills including training tutorials created by 68 First Nations Métis and Inuit creatives. Developed in collaboration with UBC's Cloud Innovation Centre and Amazon Future Engineer our Your Voice is Power program reached over 29 000 Canadians with EarSketch coding and learning about Indigenous histories through remixing music. We held Hackathon events and offered teacher training to help students and school boards integrate this program into their instruction. With support from ESDC's Supports for Student Learning program our Digital Inclusion Grants program provided laptop computers preloaded with learning resources to 711 First Nations Inuit and Métis students.
