Sweden House Society

We support the Swedish Culture at the Scandinavian Centre the Swedish Rest Home Swedish School and language; scholarships for tertiary education of any nature; donations/gifts to programmes associated with the Society as wells the the Midsummer Festival the Christmas Fair the Spring Clean up and the Volunteer Centre Luncheon as well as other participation in the community. This year we approved three scholarships for a total of $7 5000.00. We received charitable donations of $5 600.00 $ 600.00 of which was earmarked from three donors for new pavers for the front walk of the Scandinavian Community Centre and the balance $5 000.00 to be used as the Board determines which has been earmarked for 2025 for the front walk Ramp for better access to the Community Centre. The Midsummer Festival was held June 22-23 the Christmas Fair was held November 16-17 and and the Spring Clean Up was May 11 and while Sweden House did not contribute specific funds other than mentioned above many members participated with time and energy towards the the early set up the days of participation and the time of clean up. The scholarship programme is ongoing. The Board has voted to increase the Scholarship amounts beginning in 2025 to $3 000.00 per scholarship. A new fundraising programme is being discussed for 2025 to assist the Scandinavian Centre to assist with future needs.
