About Surrey Historical Society
The Society continues to hold monthly Board meetings and bi-monthly members' meetings. The meetings are mostly in person but can be switched to 'Zoom' in inclement weather especially in winter. Monthly newsletters are sent out mostly by email with a limited number still sent by mail. We continue to solicit information on pioneer Surrey families. We continue to monitor developments in Surrey that relate to its history and members of our Board belong to other organizations in the area so that we can keep updated. During the fall of 2024 the Society held the 200th Anniversary McMillan Expedition Commemoration that was planned in 2023. In 2024 we began planning a Heritage BC event to be held in February 2025 in partnership with the Cloverdale United Church a designated Heritage building. The Church is celebrating four anniversaries in 2025. The theme of the event was 'Pastimes in Past Times' Also in 2024 we began compiling information about the history of roads in Surrey including the families who built or were associated with them. This has consisted of a lot of research and has resulted in receiving a lot of historical documentation about pioneer families. The plan is to start building a website over the winter of 2025/26 to share the results with the public.
