About St Matthew's Presbyterian Church
We hold worship services once a month with a summer break in July and August. We provide an online link to a service from a sister church on a weekly basis. We fulfill expected and optional financial commitments to The Presbyterian Church in Canada (PCC a registered charity) through two programs Presbyterians Sharing and Presbyterian World Service & Development (PWS&D) thus supporting both domestic and overseas mission activities. We fulfill expected financial support of the church’s provincial (Presbytery) and regional (Synod) bodies. Both Presbytery and Synod are registered charities. We have a Community Outreach program through which we collect donations of new clothing and personal care items for another registered charity the local Salvation Army’s Family and Community Services program as well as non-perishable food items for the local Food Bank also a registered charity. The church also makes an annual financial donation to the Food Bank. The local women’s centre also benefits from our Community Outreach program with donations of comfort items being a great help to its clients. We make a financial donation to the Atlantic Mission Society of PCC another registered charity. We collect aluminum pull tabs for the recycling fundraiser at Ronald McDonald House a registered charity. We meet our financial commitment to the local Interfaith Cemetery Committee to assist with its seasonal maintenance program. Members of the church’s women’s group (The Thistle Club) knit and sew and donate the results for use at the local regional hospital’s obstetrics unit and the dementia ward. The club also donates items to be sold in the local hospital’s gift shop thereby helping raise money for health programs and medical equipment. A child care facility has also received knitted hats and mittens. With contributions from the congregation St. Matthew’s is a regular financial supporter of Canadian Foodgrains Bank (a registered charity working towards an end to world hunger)
