About St. Margaret'S Bay Stewardship Association
The st. Margaret's bay stewardship association was established to help preserve and safeguard the natural beauty and unique quality of life for the community of st. Margaret's bay. The association acts as a spokesperson and facilitator for bay residents on issues that range from commercial development eo environmental challenges. In 2007 the organization helped facilitate the public purchase of micou's island and in 2012 in partnership with halifax regional municipality and the nova scotia nature trust the purchase of troop island. The association is responsible for the ongoing management of these islands amongst other stewardship projects involving the preservation of the bay's coasts and forests. Current priorities include the monitoring and reporting on issues around water resources in the bay watershed the community management of the former bowater mersey forest lands coastal development and access and a continuing interest in sustainable development and hrm by laws. The association continues with ongoing stewardship programs for the islands of st. Margaret's bay the bluff wilderness hiking trail and the purposed ingram wilderness area.
