About St Dominic Cemetery Society
Our ongoing programs are to provide maintenance improvements and beautification of St. Dominic Cemetery in Cold Lake Alberta. Our volunteers meet on the third Wednesday of every non-snow coverage month to maintain improve and upkeep our cemetery. Additionally when tasks need to be completed we meet on other days throughout the spring summer and fall. Our volunteers also help to coordinate with families for burials coordinate with the St. Dominic Church officials direct and supervise contractors organize records research policies research & investigate unmarked sites research family histories mark unmarked sites maintain and repair our equipment and plan upkeep needs. Our board consists of 9 volunteers currently. Between 2 and 15 volunteers attend our monthly work parties. We complete significant upkeep over the warmer months. Our volunteers have provided over 352 hours of service this year. We applied for summer student funding and were approved for the program but unfortunately we were unable to attract 18-30 year old returning students for our groundskeeper position. We did not receive any federal funding this year. We are planning to improve our cemetery with paving of the driveway adding more burial site sidewalks adding signage to locate sites updating maps updating information kiosk to ease family's ability to find grave locations and perhaps adding trees.
