About Spectrum Mothers Support Society
Spectrum Mothers Support Society provides one on one in home support to mothers who are residents of the North Shore with newborns or newborns and children under five. They are referred by agencies working with families and services are provided free of charge. Clients face major challenges such as postpartum depression abusive relationships health concerns and financial hardship. Many live in isolation with little or no support from family or friends. The heart of Spectrum is the caregivers. Women who have raised their own children and understand the ups and downs of parenting. They spend time in the client’s home supporting mothers in whatever way they need. This can look like caring for a newborn while the mother rests taking toddlers out to the park listening and mentoring mothers and supporting them as they access community resources. Clients appreciate the kindness and friendship of these caregivers. The focus of our program is prevention rather than intervention understanding that healthy mothers result in healthy families and therefore healthy communities.
