Sparta and District Historical Society

We own maintain and operate two museums in the historic village of Sparta. A re-enactment dinner is hosted yearly in the autumn. We lead tours of the village maintain an inventory of historical buildings in the community publish historical booklets produce a self guided walking tour brochure of the village work with the Elgin County Museum to keep a full inventory on line of all the artifacts in our collection and host a high tea and historical fashion show each spring. We produce and install historical signs on local sites and hang banners on our historic styled lamp posts. We make videos of historical skills and activities as well as a tour of our historical village. This year's new display in our church museum featured the history of keeping clothing clean with many period costumes on display and videos of how to clean clothes in the past. We did some inventory work in our historic Quaker cemetery and added many new items to our inventory.
