The society of saint vincent de paul ('ssvp') provides emergency financial assistance and emotional support to low-income individuals and families in distress. Ssvp offers its assistance to those individuals and families living within the parish boundaries of st. Paul the apostle catholic church in burlington ontario. Ssvp maintains a 24/7 help line which individuals and families in need can call for assistance. Ssvp volunteers visit the individuals and families in need determine the type of emergency assistance required and assesses the level of annual family income. Ssvp provides food cards one-off emergency expense assistance and other financial assistance. Ssvp also provides funding for bi-weekly deliveries of vegetables and fruit to a number of low-income families and individuals. Ssvp provides food cards and gifts to low-income individuals and families at christmas easter and thanksgiving. Children of low-income families also receive support through ssvp's payment of back-to-school supplies and student bursary awards. Ssvp also provides a one-time assistance package to individuals who are released from local prisons. Ssvp st. Paul the apostle parish is one of six ssvp conferences in burlington ontario and one of several hundred similar parish-supported ssvp conferences across canada. Ssvp st. Paul the apostle parish has approximately 23 active volunteers.
