Shorefast Foundation

Shorefast’s mission is to build economic and cultural resilience on Fogo Island and to help make it possible for local communities to thrive in the global economy. Shorefast’s suite of charitable programs on Fogo Island comprise a holistic set of initiatives to support the local community’s economic development: investing in the visual arts through the internationally recognized residency-based program Fogo Island Arts environmental sustainability with a focus on the health of the ocean strengthening cultural heritage cultivating local foodways and capacity development. The Shorefast Network activates research and shares learnings through multi-sectoral facilitation with partners in business government and community to catalyze more place-centric economic development practices in communities. In 2024 Shorefast continued to enhance its all programs but its main focus was to lay the foundations for Shorefast Institute which includes a network for placed-based economies.
