About Sending Sunshine
Sending Sunshine’s core programs are divided into three areas that are designed to foster interaction between student volunteers youth groups and seniors. Handwritten Cards Program - The card program involves volunteers students and youth groups who design cards and hand-write uplifting messages. We receive the cards from around the world which are then mailed to our PO Box which we then distribute to our partner care facilities. Pen Pal Program – This unique program is intended to facilitate meaningful one-on-one intergenerational bonds. It’s a tangible way for the elderly and youth to create new connections while providing an engaging activity for participants. There is a pen-pal set up between a resident and one of our volunteers to write each other personalize cards. School Chapters Program - School chapters allow students to gain leadership skills and give back to their community. Groups of friends or classmates team up with the School's Chapter Leader(s) to write design and craft cards and letters to seniors. The chapters collectively mail cards to our PO Box which we then distribute to our partner care facilities. The Senior Nomination program is a new program to our organization. Each month our team reviews the nominations of seniors sent in by our community that could benefit from receiving hand-written uplifting messages. We choose these individuals to include on our website. Then anyone from around the world can read about each nominated senior and send a card to one or more of their choice. The cards are sent to the nominator's address who will collect the cards and deliver them to the senior they nominated!
