About Sea to Sky Invasive Species Council
Education and Outreach: We raise awareness and educate the public government agencies and other land managers about invasive species and their impacts – e.g. Present to Mayor and Councils develop information brochures for the general public maintain informational website & set up displays at community events. Source of expertise: We provide information and advice on invasive species including identification prevention and control – e.g. certification program for the horticulture and earthmoving industry hold training programs for municipal staff & respond to public inquiries. Coordination: We improve invasive species stakeholder communication and information sharing – e.g. identify stakeholders coordinate regular meetings between stakeholders and encourage & facilitate cooperation. Field work: We minimize the further introduction and spread of invasive species in the region through early detection and control and coordinated integrated invasive species management efforts – e.g. on the ground inventory & treatment work and development of a community spotters network. Implementing policy: We work with local government on policy – e.g. invasive disposal protocols at the Squamish landfill and Whistler transfer station and support for local government re: bylaw implementation.
