Salt Spring Arts Council

The salt spring arts council (ssac) fosters community vitality through the arts. We program exhibits performances events and a range of arts education to build appreciation in the arts and encourage artists and audience engagement. Artcraft gallery and sale the spring art show and special exhibits all include a range or demonstrations artist talks panels and events to build appreciation in the arts and encourage engagement between artists and audiences in a range of arts practice. Juried exhibits promote excellence in the visual arts through presentation and by awarding merit-based prizes. Educational programs include summer art camps artists in the class which brings professional artists into local classrooms and workshops on the rock which promotes arts learning for adults children and youth. The artists in residence program hosts visiting artists to create and engage with our community. Our community initiatives program deliver projects and events that engage new audiences or marginalized groups in the arts including art jam a weekly drop in studio for the homeless and hard to house. We provide grants to local projects that deliver cultural and artistic benefit to our community and awards for students pursuing post-secondary education in the arts. We also manage and maintain historic mahon hall for the cultural benefit of the salt spring island community.
