About Revelstoke Bear Aware
Revelstoke Bear Aware continues to collaborate with the City of Revelstoke Parks Canada Conservation Officers the Local Food Initiative Revelstoke Food Bank local businesses community volunteers and other partners to improve bear attractant management in and around Revelstoke. We are working closely with the City to roll out the upcoming bear-resistant waste management system by advising on and developing educational materials about best practices. In addition human-bear safety education is delivered through door-to-door visits social media farmers market visits the website print materials school and camp sessions and a phone and online bear and waste reporting system. The Fruit Gleaning and Fruit Share programs are also in place to manage fruit attractants. Revelstoke Bear Awareness Day and the Kokanee Fish Fest are key events that engage and educate the community in a fun interactive way. New programs include creating a newcomers educational package to educate new residents on best practices for bear safety. Additionally last year's GIS fruit tree map will be developed into a valuable resource for the organization city and community. Further expansion of the Cub Crew Program is underway and plans for 2025 include launching a retail line to diversify the organization’s revenue streams.
