Risa operates two residential homes in dartmouth nova scotia - edwards house and brockwell house - which together provide a safe and supportive environment for up to 14 vulnerable youth. These homes are staffed around the clock by trained youth support workers who offer continuous supervision and guidance. As of summer 2024 risa has positively impacted the lives of over 1 500 at-risk youth. Our homes provide young people the stability they need to focus on their education and job training without the pressures of self-sufficiency. In addition to academic and career support we emphasize the development of essential life skills. Through participation in meal preparation household chores and other programing our residents learn about healthy living food safety cleanliness responsibility and time management-skills many have not had the opportunity to develop before coming to risa. We also provide critical support for youth facing mental health challenges behavioral issues and substance use. We strive to create a nurturing family-style environment where each young person feels safe supported and valued. Our holistic approach includes a variety of enriching programs designed to promote independence self-advocacy and personal growth: -culinary connections - a hands-on food literacy program that teaches nutrition meal planning and cooking skills. -healthy bodies healthy minds - an active recreation program that fosters physical wellness builds self-esteem and encourages youth to explore their interests. -pathways forward - a series of workshops focused on healthy relationships educational advancement and job readiness.
