Raya Development Foundation

1/ Raya Development Foundation (RDF Canada) responded to an urgent request to support fifteen individuals in Wargba facing early signs of starvation with some already migrating in search of food. After independently verifying the situation RDF Canada approved and released 180 000 Birr in line with its mission to relieve poverty. The funds intended to sustain the individuals for three months until additional aid arrives were sent to a local representative who in collaboration with the Raya Azebo social affairs officer distributed the aid. Each person received 100 kg of sorghum 5 liters of cooking oil and 3 000 Birr in cash for supplemental food. 2/ Due to ongoing food shortages caused by war-related destruction mass displacement and now severe drought the people of Tigray are facing life-threatening hunger. In response Raya Development Foundation Canada (RDF Canada) identified three remote and previously inaccessible villages in Ofla Woreda southern Tigray as critically in need. After confirming the situation with local authorities RDF Canada approved 700 000 Birr in emergency aid for 100 vulnerable families. The funds were used by RDF Canada’s local representative in coordination with woreda officials to distribute 70 kg of corn 5 liters of cooking oil and 2 000 Birr in cash per person to address immediate food needs. 3/ Raya Development Foundation (RDF Canada) purchased a submersible pump set to support 35 households (80 farmers) in Maru Raya Chercher in establishing an irrigation system. This initiative aims to enhance sustainable food security for the farmers and their surrounding community by addressing recurring crop failures caused by unpredictable rainfall.
