The provincial health services authority (phsa) is responsible for managing the quality coordination accessibility and cost of selected province-wide healthcare programs and services. Phsa provides corporate services and is responsible for provincial programs such as thoracic surgery cardiac and renal services. The following major programs are all under the responsibility of phsa: children's & women's health centre of british columbia (bc) provides hospital services for women and children; bc cancer provides cancer control programs including prevention screening early detection treatments innovation.research and education; bc centre for disease control provides provincial and national leadership in public health through surveillance detection treatment prevention; bc mental health and substance use services provides a range of provincial specialized services for adults as well as provincial leadership for system-wide planning research academic teaching; bc transplant society provides co-ordination organ donations procurements and transplant of organs deliver programs of organ donor awareness and education developing and implementing policies professional standards guidelines; and support services promotes health in the province by coordinating managing and/or providing non-clinical support services to british colimbia's health care system.
