About Porpoise.org Porpoise Conservation Society
The Porpoise Conservation Society advances porpoise conservation through research education advocacy and direct action. Our long-term harbour porpoise research continued at two vital locations: Howe Sound off West Vancouver and the waters surrounding East Point on Saturna Island. Here dedicated volunteers conducted field studies while engaging hundreds of park visitors sharing knowledge about local marine life and conservation challenges. We proudly co-organized the annual BC Marine Mammal Symposium with UBC's Marine Mammal Research Unit creating opportunities for knowledge exchange among researchers students and conservation professionals. This collaboration continues to strengthen the scientific community working to protect marine mammals throughout British Columbia. As part of our citizen science initiatives our online sightings platform welcomed reports from Canada and around the world gathering crucial data on all porpoise species. Meanwhile our comprehensive research library on porpoise.org made scientific knowledge accessible to students researchers and anyone curious about these marine mammals. Vaquita conservation once again represented one of our most urgent missions. Through our co-organizing the annual International Save the Vaquita Day event and ongoing advocacy campaigns we raised awareness about this critically endangered species reaching thousands of supporters worldwide and maintaining pressure for meaningful conservation action. Our 'Not a Dolphin' podcast on Spotify and Apple Podcasts brought porpoise stories to life exploring the challenges facing small cetaceans while highlighting conservation successes. This audio platform reached diverse audiences who might not otherwise encounter porpoise science. We also continued production on 'Canvas & Currents'. This live-streaming program on YouTube and Twitch features renowned scientific illustrator Dr. Julius Csotonyi creating detailed marine life artwork in real-time. As he draws
