About Parksville Qualicum Adult Literacy Society
The Society continues the 'Tutor Talks' program comprised of five presentations annually organizing invited speakers on various topics related to tutoring. Tutors are encouraged to recommend topics for the sessions. For example this last year there were talks held on dyslexia IELTS exams the Decoda library and teaching grammar points. Via qualified intermediary CVIJOBS PQALS helped increase the capacity of The Tutoring Program by funding increased staff hours. The Tutoring Program supplies free volunteer tutors for basic literacy numeracy and ESL services. PQALS also augmented funds needed for the delivery of biannual Basic Tutor Training courses and made purchases of teaching resources. PQALS funded an annual advertising campaign to advocate for literacy issues to advertise these locally available literacy and ESL services and to recruit volunteer tutors and learners. No new programs.
