P.e.i. School Food Program Inc.

The pei school food program is a universal school food program available to all students in public schools across prince edwrd island. The program is accessible to all students in pei public schools through diverse food service delivery models. The program ensures students have equitable access to a healthy aéordable lunch option êve days a week regardless of their family's ability to pay. The program provides equitable access to families by oéering a 'pay-what-you-can' (pwyc) payment model to a maximum of $5 per meal. Parents/guardians order and pay online (for the most part) for student lunches from local vendors who deliver them to schools each day. Fourteen percent (14% or 18 900 island households were identiêed as food insecure. This program is a very important preventative strategy for the long-term health of islanders and will help to reduce the burden on pei's health system and social service programs.
