About Opportunities United Community Initiative
Activities started in July 2023. Accordingly all programs are included in 'New Programs'. On Track to Success ('OTTS') On Track to Success is a youth empowerment program designed to increase high school graduation rates and post-secondary enrollment rates among youth from low-incomes families who reside in one of the ProsperUS identified priority neighbourhoods. OTTS provides wrap around supports to students and their families from Grade 9 until the end of their first year of Post-Secondary Education. Programming includes: • Academic tutoring: 1:1 and small group tutoring individualized support and access to school supplies and technology. • Financial support: up to $4000 is provided for post-secondary education related expenses. Additional support with transportation living expenses and basic needs is provided to remove any potential barriers. • Mentoring: career and social mentoring focused on soft skill development career exploration and professional development. • Individual & Family Support: Success Coaches work with schools parents and students to provide wrap-around supports that meet the unique needs of participants and to ensure they stay on track to complete high school. Ignite Academy’s United Way Academic Team ('UWAT') Ignite Academy is an out-of-school solution designed to improve math and literacy skills for children between grades 2 and 7 while providing wrap-around support for families. This locally designed solution supports 180 students at six program sites across Windsor and Leamington. Students receive family system navigation academic interventions and homework help nutrition supports mentoring recreation arts and cultural activities. The United Way Academic Team facilitates daily literacy and numeracy interventions for students performing below their grade level at all six Ignite Academy sites. UWAT conducts diagnostic tests to identify student’s areas of growth and facilitates targeted skill building instruction individually
