About Okotoks Film Society
Bringing a world of culture entertainment and artists to Okotoks while celebrating those already here. The Society is a group of board directors with the goal of making Okotoks and the surrounding area a viable and attractive place for film creation. They work to educate and connect local filmmakers while providing the opportunity for filmmakers and the public alike to take an active part in film culture. Pushing for innovation in both filmmaking and in film watching the Okotoks Film Society is here to answer questions and provide programing to encourage professional development. The Okotoks Film Society currently hosts two festivals (The Okotoks Film Festival and the Okotoks Festive Film Festival) A 4-month mentorship program that supports and educates local filmmakers in the creation of a short film Educational programs for Youth with our Next-Gen Youth Film Screening and Program (which includes providing industry mentorship of young filmmakers) two filmmaking challenges open to all skill levels and film interest and a number of Film Screening events including National Canadian Film Day and the Oscar Nominated Short Films. We also partner with groups and businesses to aid in providing these film experiences past partners include the Calgary Japanese Cultural Association Calgary Justice Film Festival AGEC Hub Town Brewing and Ireri-Mexican Latino & Cross-Cultural Society. We also ran a haunted house at HubTown Brewing in October. New in the 2023-2024 seasons we began the Pop-Up Flicks a free event that allows audiences to attend screenings of short film packages in the park. This allowed us to expand our support for film artists and provide local audiences with more unique films. We embarked on our Strategic plan and set up the future of the society. This includes more events to train and work with the public in filmmaking. As part of this we are completing a research program in 2025 to learn about and expand our audience.
