Nova Scotia Hospice/Palliative Care Association

Nshpca continues with offering health education to communities across nova scotia. We have approximately 50 volunteers doing presentations on advance care planning in small and large groups in both urban and rural communities. In support of this program we have also introduced the topic of grief through webinars such as the weary heart cafe. Partnerships have been establsihed with african nova scotian francophone and acadian mi'kmaq communities to ensure the program is culturally and linguistically appropriate for all communities. Our strategic focus is focused on grief and bereavement from a community perspective. We will continue with webinars introduce podcasts. Community driven programs require trained volunteers. To this end volunteer training across the province will be standardized through an accredited program. A provincial database identifying accredited community volunteers will be made available. Nshpca is in the process of developing a partnership with ns health which would make it hte hub of grief literacy in nova scotia.
