Nourish Nova Scotia Society

Established in 2012 nourish nova scotia is a registered charity that support the health education and well-being of children and youth throughout the province. Nourish nova scotia supports include: 1. Grants for school based healthy eating programs 2. Program leadership advocacy and resources including: educational materials best practice standards food literacy fundraising supports and volunteer resources 3. Network building among programs and volunteers to increase capacity and facilitate sharing of knowledge and resources nourish currently supports 93% of public schools in nova scotia to offer a universally accessible healthy breakfast program. These programs are community owned and volunteer driven. The reporting year over 5.4 million breakfasts were served by more than 2700 volunteers province-wide. Nourish supports a healthy fundraising program for schools and non profit childcare centres where local farms are partnered with schools for the purpose of fundraising while helping the schools/centres adhere to the fundraising directive in the food and nutrition policy for ns public schools (2007). Schools/centres that use this opportunity direct their fundraising revenue back into supporting their own healthy food programs and initiatives in the schools/centres.
